Quarter 4 Self-Reflection
1. In your opinion, what was the purpose of this blogging activity? (Why did Ms. Rumford decide to spend so much time on blogging instead of more traditional writing activities?)
I think the reason why Ms. Rumford wanted us to use so much time blogging was because she wanted us to have our own voice. She wanted to see how we write when we pick our own topic and can write about basically what ever we want to. She wanted us to bring out our own voice and bring out emotion. I guess Ms. Rumford knew that we wouldn’t have a lot of emotion if we had to write about a topic she gave us.
2. What have you accomplished during your blogging and give specifics to support your? (Think outside the box–remember, you are global citizens.)
During my blogging experience I have accomplished to be a global citizen. I have also used Freedom of Speech that has allowed me to talk my own topic and share my own opinions about the various cars I have been writing about. I have also accomplished to learn more about what it is like being a global citizen. I have never tried to write about anything and sharing it online. This was a whole new experience and really fun to learn how to use. I have also accomplished to identify the different kind of sentences. I learned to cut down my writing so that I wouldn’t be talking too long about the same thing but get to the main topic.
3. What key concepts have you learned while blogging? (This can be about writing, research or technology etc.)
During this blogging experience I have learnt how to use Edublogs to share my own opinions about the cars I have written about. I have learnt what it is like to be a global citizen. I have also increased my research skills, I have done this for when I needed to find information about the cars I would have to find valuable and reliable sources. I have also learned how to embed videos to a website and how to use technology to spread my own opinions. I have also learned that Wikipedia is not a school reliable source and therefore have had to avoid using it.
4. How did the weekly requirements (different sentences, word count, word choice, voice, research, linking, embedding, intro-body-conclusion, concise writing, etc.) help you become a better writer? For example, identifying and highlighting your sentences, knowing when to use a comma, semi-colon, phrases and clauses, etc.
The weekly requirements helped me become a better writer because by doing the requirements it forced me to use different techniques and different abilities to make my writing more interesting. When we had to identify our sentences it helped me realize how I could write more about something in one sentence, or how to combine sentences. The weekly requirements have helped me increase my abilities to make my writing interesting by using various sentences and media. Also the word limit helped me cut down my information and just share the most important facts that the readers needs to know. It also made sure that I wouldn’t repeat myself, which I have noticed that I have done before in previous years. So I need to proof read my work and make sure that I am not repeating myself.
5. Based on the skills (writing, technology, perspective) you learned while blogging, how will this benefit you in the future? This maybe inside or outside of school.
The skills that I have learnt during the blogging experience can help me benefit my future because it has allowed me to learn in what ways I can express my own opinions using Freedom of Speech. The technology can help me teach others how to use the WWW to express their feelings and opinions as well as I have this year using Edublogs. The research I have done can help me find more reliable sources and create more reliable sources. Using Edublogs can also be a fun way to post written schoolwork in the future.
